The former Governor and Union Minister Dr. Bhishma Narain Singh said that India is known for its competent information technologists and spiritualism. He was addressing the students of Asian Academy of Film & TV. Dr. Bhishma Narain Singh advised the would be journalists and filmmakers to think positively while doing their work. Expressing his concern about young people often becoming intolerant, he pointed out that tolerance is indeed the cornerstone of our culture. Describing media as the fourth pillar of the democracy, the convener of India Media Congress Neeraj Rathod urged the students to try and preserve democracy in India through their work. Complementing Sandeep Marwah for his notable contribution to media education and training worldwide, he told the would be media professional that in the field of journalism it pays to keep the eyes and ears open and the mouth shut. Addressing the students on this occasion the former MP Subash Chandra Nayak advised the media professionals in the making to be above all a good human being.

The Superstar of Indian films Rajesh Khanna said that after acting in nearly 190 feature films, he realized that performing arts is indeed a fathomless ocean. Addressing the students, he recalled his varied experience of 40 years in the Indian cinema. The talented actor and a heart throb of millions, Rajesh Khanna mentioned that performing arts call for hard work sacrifices and self discipline. Congratulating the Academy for its notable contribution to the film and television industries, Rajesh Khanna said that systematic education and training will be helpful to the aspirants of a career in these industries. It would be prudent to learn the entire gamut of the film art and craft at the school irrespective of the chosen field of specialization, he added.

FILMMAKING REQUIRES SYSTEMATIC STUDY OF THE MEDIUM – SATISH KAUSHIK

The well known film director Satish Kaushik said that watching the works of great filmmakers like Eisenstein, Fellini and Satyajit Ray Goddard had been a valuable hearing experience for him. He was addressing the students of University of Media Arts’ study centre Asian Academy of Film & Television and Asian School of Media Studies after formally declaring open Sewaram Marwah Memorial Films & Books Library of the University in the national capital region. Stating that he although he loves directing films, acting is his passion. Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor starrer feature film Milenge-Milenge currently being directed by him is nearing completion, he disclosed. Speaking on this occasion, the founder director of Pune’s National Film Archive of India P.K. Nair said that setting up of the University of Media Arts by Prof. Sandeep Marwah indeed reflects the growing importance of creative industries worldwide. It is important to understand cinema prior to embarking upon making of a film, he added. Documentary filmmaker of Kolkata Subha Das Mollick also graced the occasion.

Entertainment is recession proof – Assocham Focus 2008

The global economic meltdown will not impact the entertainment industry, those associated with the sector say.”Entertainment is recession-proof. It does well both in good and bad times,’ Rajjat A. Barjatya, managing director of production house Rajshri Media, told IANS during Focus 2008, the two-day second annual global entertainment and media summit that began here Monday.
‘In fact, there has been an increase in the content consumption during the slowdown, as people want to come out of the economic trauma and turn to entertainment as an escape from reality. Films are escapist and aspiring and that makes them recession-proof.” he said.
Barjatya, however, conceded revenues had taken a hit. ‘Business-wise, we have seen a drop in our advertisements revenue but not on the content consumption,” he said.Added Michael C. Ellis, president and managing director of the Motion Picture Association’s Asia Pacific region: “People want to be entertained and despite the meltdown, studios across the world are going to churn out movies for the audience. It is one medium that is cheap and easily accessible and one-stop shop for viewers to escape from their shock of the meltdown. It never suffers.’Citing an example, Ellis said the latest James Bond film, ‘Quantum of Solace’, broke records over the first weekend in the UK, while ‘The Dark Knight’ fetched close to $1 billion worldwide.
However, Sandeep Marwah, president of media training institute Asian Academy of Film and Television, believes ‘there has to be some obvious cost-cutting’ ‘But the profits won’t get affected and in fact will be up. Whatever may be the situation, people will turn to the medium as a breather,’ he said. “To talk about the Indian entertainment industry, it is going to double itself by 2012 and will touch the Rs.100,000 crore (Rs.1 trillion) mark business-wise.”

DUTY HAS TO BE PART AND PARCEL OF RELIGION – SAYS PREM SAGAR

Addressing the student of the Asian Academy of Film & Television, the renowned producer/director Prem Sagar said that Karma has to be a part of dharma. Feeling at home in the company of the students this distinguished film and television personality said that his illustrious father Ramanand Sagar asked him in 1968 to join Film & Television Institute of India because this premier film school was keen to associate itself with their renowned production house. He mentioned that by sheer dint of hard work and a bit of good luck he holds enviable and unbroken record of being awarded both the gold & the silver medal of the institute. Answering the questions from the students, Prem Sagar said that the realisation of the power and the great reach of the television to communicate with the masses had motivated his company to produce mega TV serials like Ramayana, Krishna & Jai ganga Maiya. He said their target audience is not a religious group but the entaire mankind. In a passing reference to the films he said that films are a commercial art and are always bogged down by uncertainty which is a constant source of worry to the producer. Commending the work being done in the field of film & television training by Prof. Sandeep Marwah and his team, he advised the students to carefully observe the objects and event around them for creating meaningful and purposeful television programmes and films. Subhash Sagar who was accompanying Prem Sagar also spoke on this occasion. Both of them agreed to be the member of the governing council of Asian Academy of Film & Television.

TELEVISION SHOULD HELP SHAPE PEOPLES LIVES

Addressing the students of the twenty-sixth session of Asian Academy of Film & Television, well known intellectual and former Director General Doordarshan Madhukar Lele said that mass media is known to shape thought, change attitudes and move people to action and its potentials to facilitate development or damaging the society is enormous. Conceding that the technological advances have made the television production equipment versatile and user friendly, he said their creative use is indeed challenging. He was of the opinion that the value-system in the Indian society have changed for the worse in the last decade due to the evil influence of television. He forcefully stated that television must be used for the public good. Feeling nostalgic about the positive role of mass media he mentioned that it is All India Radio which gave the classical music its place of pride. Pointing out that knowledge is limitless, he asked the students to continuously strive for acquiring skills in their chosen field of creative work. Answering the questions from the students Prof. Sandeep Marwah explained the role of media in man’s life. Commending the work being done in the field of media education and training by Prof. Sandeep Marwah, the renowned journalist Madhavkante Mishra told the students that education and training helps in leading one from darkness to light and that practical experience in the field makes one perfect. Speaking with emotion, Madhavkante Mishra lamented that commercialisation of mass media has led to unfair competition as well as degeneration of the moral standards in the society. He asked the students to try and bring glory to their alma mater by their professional work.

Laura Bush Visits Film City

After attending a ceremonial reception with cavalry soldiers, a gunsalute and a military honor guard for President Bush at New Delhi’spresidential palace, Mrs. Bush was to break away from the presidentialentourage. It is her first visit to India.
Her first stop is Film City, an enclave of television studios in New Delhi’s eastern suburb of Noida,where Mrs. Bush took part in a shootof “Galli Galli Sim Sim,” an Indian take on the hugely popular puppetshow. The episode is expected to reach an estimated 40 millionhouseholds when it airs in the coming months.
Briefing the press Sandeep Marwah Spokesperson of Noida Film City saidthat the show is centered on Chamki, a girl who lives by herself on anarrow street with her friends, and is partly funded by the U.S.
government and It is aimed at India’s 157 million children under age 6.

VICE PRESIDENT OF INDIA IS ALL EARS TO PROF.MARWAH

Vice Chancellor of the University of Media Arts (UMA), Prof. Sandeep Marwah was the special guest on the occasion of he release function of Santosh Bharti’s Book by the Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri Bahiron Singh Shekhawat at his official residence in capital recently. Prof.Marwah took the opportunity to brief the Hon’ble Vice President about all the activities of the University of Media Arts and told him that it had already established three international records. He also told the VP about the success story of the university and its affiliated colleges for having been able to draw students from as many as 48 countries already in its very short span of its formative year itself.
