One of the most successful non resident Indians in the United Kingdom Dr. Dharam Bir Lall was made the life member of the International Film & Television Research Centre an affiliate of the first Film University of India, University of Media Arts , during his visit to Noida Film City. Dr. Dharam Bir Lall migrated to London in 1958 and worked diligently to become the leading light of East London business community. He was awarded an Honrary Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of East London. He chaired the Newham Chamber of Commerce in 2002. He also carries the title of Lord Lall of Woodlands- the country of Essex in UK. Speaking on this occasion Vice Chancellor designate of University of Media Arts Prof. Sandeep Marwah said that D B Lall is indeed a source of inspiration to one and all and he has amply proved that Indians are indeed second to none.

Asian Academy of Film & TV recently played host to the talented and beautiful actress Raveena Tandon.Congratulating the students on joining this World renowned institute for learning the art and craft of film making, she welcomed them to the exciting world of cinema. Answering questions put to her by the students she said that systematic training is necessary for all including the gifted persons for making a mark in the field of performing arts.
She pointed out that even the best of the raw diamond needs cutting and polishing before use.Asked about her preference for acting in commercial or art films,Raveena Tandon said that she does not believe in categorising the films in this manner.She said that there are only good films and bad films and obviously her prefence is for acting in the good ones . Formally launching academy’ s new course in Film Fashion & Costume Designing,Raveena Tandon hoped that it would fulfil the longstanding need of training in this area of specialisation.Raveena Tandon also agreed to be on the Board of Asian Academy of Film & Television and promised all possible support of Prof. Sandeep Marwah is his work . The thirty first session of the academy will commence on 3rd April 2001.’

The ambassador of Israel in India, His Excellency David Aphek formally inaugurated the first ever festival of Israeli Student Films at Asian Academy of Film & Television.Welcoming the ambassador and Mr. Akiva Tevet, Head of the Film Department at Camera Obscura School of Art , Prof. Sandeep Marwah thanked them for arranging the screening of the films exclusively for the students of AAFT and said this event has great educational value for the would be film makers.Addressing the students His Excellency David Aphek who had personally supervised the relief provided by his country to the victims of the earthquake at Bhuj, was visibly moved when he asked all present to observe silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls.Continuing with his address, the ambassador said it was indeed difficult for him to switch his mind from disaster to film art.He, however, felt that the human suffering in Gujrat will surely provide subject matter for films.His Excellency David Aphek was of provides the right kind of environment to the film makers for their work. Mr.Akiva Tevet who had come from Israel to interact with the students of AAFT, said that today’ s film makers emerge from film schools and are better educated than their predecessors. He was of the view that film school is the place to discover and to nurture one’ s artistic potential. Mr. Akiva Tevet said the some of the makers of films brought by him are extremely talented and they posses the necessary potential to earn recognition in the film world.the screening of films followed the formal inauguration of the festival.

In his forceful and thought provoking address to the students of University of Media Arts Study Centre Asian Academy of Film & TV, the chairperson of INS and a member of the Press Council of India Sunil Dang urged the media professionals to be responsive and responsible to their mass audience. A single minded devotion to the chosen field work is the key to the success, he added. Complementing Prof. Sandeep Marwah on setting up the first film University of India, the seasoned bureaucrat and intellectual C K Sharma said that going to a movie theatre or taking up filmmaking and television presentation is no longer considered disreputable. The makers of entertainment products must ensure that in their work the baser emotions of the viewers are kept under check and they are shielded from unethical temptation, he added. The noted sculpturist and a recipient Padamashri award Ram Sutar asked the students to bring to the silver screen to life in a manner which may bring credit to the academy.

Speaking at length about the current film, television and music industry world-wide, the veteran Australian television producer and now a trainer at Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE Mr. Robert Stewart stated that the makers of entertainment products have to take note of the technological developments to survive in the highly competitive environment obtainable in the twenty-first century. He was addressing the students of the University of Media Arts Study Centre – Asian Academy of Film & TV. Mr. Stewart said that as a country of one billion plus people, India offers tremendous opportunity to the media professionals. Emphasising the importance of systematic training for filmmaking and television production, he said that good equipments do not automatically make good programmes. Talking about the first all high definition television commercial – the Matrix Reloaded, produced by the Australian facility Ambience, he pointed out to the ever increasing application of computer techniques in the generation of moving images. Commending Prof. Sandeep Marwah effort to provide excellent facilities for education and training of the film and television professionals, Mr. Stewart said that at Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE is willing to join hand with AAFT in coming days.

Describing cinema as the art of presenting motion pictures, Quentin states Polet of IBM Singapore said that a revolution is indeed taking place in the art and science of image making for visual entertainment. He was addressing the students of Asian Academy of Film & TV. The current environment of technical evolution is leading to an increase in the demand of visual production and to making available new tools to the filmmakers to realize their dreams, he added. Welcoming the visiting expert Prof. Sandeep Marwah stated that making digital cinema products is much cheaper and video based digital cinema systems have radically changed the way movies are made, distributed and enjoyed. Answering a question Quentin States-Polet said that digital cinema is not limited to digitally produced motion pictures using computers alone. He was in India on the invitation of University of media Arts.

The Mauritius High Commission in India H.E Mr. Daneelal Seewoo said that putting knowledge andskills to proper use is much more important than merely acquiring them. He was addressing the students of Asian Academy of Film & TV. He urged the film and television professionals to try and build a happy, healthy and prosperous society through their work of art. None has the right to hurt the sentiments of an individual or sectors of the society under the pretext of the freedom for expression, he added. Complimenting Prof. Sandeep Marwah on establishing the first Film University of India the High Commissioner said that nationals of Mauritius may also benefit form the institution of higher learning. The High Commissioner also invited the Indian filmmakers to shoot their films in Mauritius. In his thought provoking address the well known artist Jiten Hazarika advised the outgoing students to be above all a good human being. Director, National Institute of Fashion Designing, Ms. Jyoti Khera and the well known social worker Ms. Kamla Prem also shared their thoughts with the students on this occasion.

Formally launching the new course – FILM FASHION & COSTUME DESIGNING of Asian Academy of Film & Television which will be conducted from April 2001, the former minister of Haryana Krishna Murari Huda complimented Prof. Sandeep Marwah for recognising the need of trained professionals in this field of specialisation and that these subjected deserve serious academic study. He said that dressing up and the make up of the artistes are important and the overall look of a film and television presentation.The hon’ ble former minister further added that AAFT is perhaps one of the few film schools in the world which offer such a unique training course.Under the glare of lights the well known journalist and the editor of Urdu Rashtriya Sahara Aziz Burney sounded the clapper to give the mahurat shot of the television serial ’ Roshni’ currently under production at Marwah studios in the Noida Film City.This serial is being for produced Doordarshan by Col. Narjit Behl, Chairman,Harmony a trust devoted to serve people affected by militancy and terrorism and directed by Prof. Sandeep Marwah.A number of AAFT alumni are actively associated with the production of this television serial which deals with the problem created due to militancy in Kashmir Valley.

Speaking to the students of the academy on this occasion, the techniques should be harnessed for generating images and sound through which the filmmaker intends to touch the heart and move the soul of the viewers. But the tools and the techniques must not affect the artistic expression of the creative mind. He advised the would be filmmakers to keep experimenting with the style of story telling with images and sound as this is the only way to sustain film making.
